Loch Leven Wildlife

The site has been a wildlife haven over the last few weeks. We have had a stag roaming around, who doesn’t seem to be to bothered by people, also a Roe deer who is a bit more nervous!

The otters are in the loch, so pleased to see them again, they are normally spotted at sunrise or sunset, just in a little bay on the waters edge.
We have 3 ducks, 2 males and 1 female who regularly pop into our garden to eat the bird seed.
The pine martens have had 2 kits, who are currently nesting in our out building roof, and should be making an appearance in the next few weeks. They have been visiting the chalets, as usual, in search of food, their favourite being bread & jam or peanut butter or anything sweet!!!!

Many people don’t believe they will see a Pine marten when they visit but we can almost guarantee you will!!! We have had families of Pine Martens resident here for years and they regular venture onto the chalet balconies for food.  One of our regular visitors took a video of them and we have lots of pictures given to us by our guests, you can see some on the gallery page of our website.

This picture shows a sheep and her little lamb (who we’ve named Shawn, I know very original)! They have been resident on the grassy area across the road. The other picture is of some lambs along at the farm, this was taken a few weeks ago, they certainly won’t look like this anymore!!

Bird life is varied also with woodpeckers, and even sparrow hawks making an appearance.  It is not uncommon to see an eagle flying high over the hills behind us, also.  this picture is of a Waxwing, taken earlier on on the year.

Here at Loch Leven Holidays we reguarly see Stags, Pine martens, Red Squirrels and various other fantastic wildlife species, who all visit on a regular basis.
